The lesson covers page 91 to the end of Antigone. There are fewer pages to read than in the last lesson, but a lot to think about. At the end of this lesson you will be asked to write an analytical essay about Antigone on a topic of your choice. Start thinking about what approach you may want to take for your analysis. I will give you some suggestions at the end of this lesson. After that, you should review for the final, which covers everything we’ve studied in the 19th and 20th centuries (but not previous to the 19th century).
This lesson will enable you to contrast the two different conceptions of happiness presented by Créon and Antigone. You will learn to explain the concluding events of the play and how they create ambiguity rather than easy answers.
